THE SHEMA: Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD, is the great cry of Judaism. It is an affirmation and declaration of faith in one God, Deuteronomy chapter 6, verse 4.
Jesus makes the same declaration that was made in the old testament when questioned by a scribe on what the first commandment is, “And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord,” Mark 12:29.
And as much as there is only one God, there is only one Mediator: God Himself, in the person of Jesus the Christ.
Thomas, Peter and especially Mary, though blessed, are not Mediators. For the Bible says in the Book of First Timothy Chapter 2, and verse 5: For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. And the Book of Hebrews Chapter 12, verse 24: And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
It was the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross which was an appropriate propitiation (appeasement) for the sins of all humanity. And it is only fair that the sacrifice-Jesus- gets the right to advocate and mediate, and not anybody else. Therefore even in the Godhead-The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit, it is the Son who takes up this role. We do not see the Father and the Holy Spirit donning the role of the advocate.
The Bible categorically denies the prerogative to anybody, but Jesus, to be sought for a mediatorial role, and yet people in the tens of thousands flock to have the saints of yore mediate for them. For people such as these, this is what the Bible says: “Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye,” Mark Chapter 7 Verse 13.
Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition
Customs have a way of making the word of God have zero effect in our lives, and in order to change that one must accept the authority of the Bible as the Word of God, for the Book of John, chapter 1, says that the Word became flesh and the Word was God. So what you read in the Bible are no ordinary Words, but the very thoughts of God, and these Words reveal the very mind of God. The book of John, chapter 6 verse 63 says that the Words that God speaks are Spirit and life.
When tradition and not the Bible is the yardstick, then there is strife, and strife leads to confusion; Jas 3:16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. We may all be from different churches, and from different social and cultural backgrounds, however one thing that connects all of us as one-body of believers is the Word of God.
No preacher, no church, and no tradition can give a different meaning to what is written in the Bible, and if they do: then they are under a curse, read what the Apostle Paul says in the book of Galtations, Gal1: 8&9, But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
